Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is driven by the concept of “interculturalizing the curriculum” (Leask, 2015). An interculturalized curriculum provides students with opportunities to explore the course content through diverse perspectives. This can include course materials (readings, videos, case studies) that explore different cultural perspectives, experiential learning opportunities, and learning from each other in the classroom, as a diverse group of learners where they can offer their individual cultural perspective on course content (Page, 2021).

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)

In Winter 2022, I collaborated with Prince of Songhkla University in Thailand, a partner university of UFV through the UMAP network, to offer a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project in my ARTS299 class. 10 UFV students self-selected to participate in this intercultural, project-based learning program. The students reported enhanced proficiency in transferable skills such time management and organizational skills. Students also shared reflective learning through introspection about their global competency development. Please view one of the group's project video (shared with permission).
